Life's a Beach
Today we went to Cocoa Beach. From Oveido, where we are staying, it is a short 30 minute drive. We loaded up the car with tubes, chairs, umbrellas, towels, and of course the kids...and off we went. Kevin was able to take the day off and come with us, so it was Kev and Jen, Me and Robert, Tanner, Tori, Taylor, Megan, Paige and Cole. We left Tucker and Tiegan with a baby sitter.
We set up camp for the day just as the skies were looking a little questionable. There were a few intermittent rain drops and we were starting to get worried that it was going to pour rain on us. We heard a few distant rumbles - but then suddenly the sun came out and the storm headed the other way. The kids were scavenging for sea shells and sand crabs and us adults hit the ocean. Jen picked up a boogie board at the famous RonJon Surf Shop and we were determined to learn how to do it.
The waves were pretty decent for boogie boarding, and body surfing...but we were just not coordinated enough to catch any good ones. Once the kids got wind of what we were doing, our chances to surf were over! But it was just as well, because they had much better luck at it! Paige and Taylor even rode a couple of waves all the way in to the beach! Tanner LOVED it, but Cole was not too keen on it after he got flipped. Megan was pretty terrified of getting eaten by a shark (apparantly she watches too much of the Discovery Channel) and Tori would rather play in the sand...
It was really neat being out so far from the beach and still being able to touch the sand. We were out far enough to see the pelicans fly up and dive straight down to grab fishes about 10 yards from us! The water was a perfect temperature.
No one got a sunburn that day except me, and it was only on my tush... I now have a bathing suit line on my butt!
