SEDONA - DAY 1

The drive to getting here was much easier and shorter than we had initally thought. . . but after waking up to the majesty and magic of the place, we all agreed we would have taken any length of time to get here! Sedona is so beautiful, and I am a decent photographer, but I am not convinced that I was able to capture the essence of the town.


We woke up to a sun shiny day with temperatures in the 70's. For us Coloradoans, that is PERFECT~! We headed out into town and dined for breakfast at a little pastry shop in town. We sat outside and looked around at the scenery and the kids found their first true Arizona cactus.


After breakfast we headed up Chapel Road to see the beautiful Chapel of the Holy Cross. It is a very spiritual place that my grandparents took my mom to, and was something that you just have to experience for yourself. The chapel sits within the cliffs. They hold one prayer service there per week, on Monday evenings. Besides that, the chapel is a place for prayer and reflection. You can feel it's holyness just by standing inside the walls. Flanking the pulpit are rows of candles. The candles can be lit in memory of someone who has passed for a small donation. Both Paige and Cole opted to light a candle in the memory Grandpa John. It was a very fulfilling moment. After we had some time in the chapel we took a quick tour of the gift shop and then hiked back down to our car.




We did some touristy things around town for a bit, taking in the UFO shoppe and a few other shops before enjoying lunch at Oaxaca (pronounce wa-ha-ka) which was some really delicious mexican cuisine. After that, we returned to the hotel and spent the afternoon at the pool swimming and catching some rays.

For the evening we decided to check out TLAQUEPAQUE. It was recommended that we visit this arts and crafts village by more than person. It was sort of sad that we went after 5pm because most of the shops were closed or closing, but it was probably better because we got to enjoy the sculptures that are throughout the village without the crowds.



Our first day in Sedona ended with Paige and I at the pool while Cole and daddy chillaxed in the room.
