Spring Snow!
So the weather forecasters predicted a BLIZZARD, the schools prematurely CLOSED, the ER put us up at the MARRIOT and gave us all FREE FOOD, and all we got was 15 inches. 15 inches is still the most snow we have had this winter... so I am not going to complain. I am also not complaining about the snow days that the kids got... nor the free food or nice accomodations from the hospital!
So today we dug out the snow gear that we had all but packed away and headed out to play in our renewed sense of WINTER!
Robert was up bright and early to clear the driveway and sidewalk. And the kids were bundled up and outside with all the neighborhood kids before I was out of bed! The kids made snow angels and snow men in the yards and tried to sled in the yards. When that didn't work they tried out some little hills that are right around our homes.... nothin'.
So inside to stack up some lunch calories, preload on water, and empty the bladders we went. Then it was off to sled some REAL hills!
We met up with Jen, Kevin and Sean (of course) and the 4 older of the Allen clan. In total we had 5 sleds and 1 ski-bike. The hills varied in size and grooming, but the powder was deep, so even the biggest wipe outs didn't hurt!
There were some high school kids building homemade jumps and doing tricks on their snowboards, and after they left the kids quickly inundated their hills! It quickly became a contest to see who could get over the jump first. It
took several (hundred) attempts, as each try lead to sliding off the jump sideways or missing it all together. But Paige finally made it up and over and did not wipe out! The boys took a turn at being dare devils and did some smaller jumps of their own. And even us grown ups ran some races down the hills! It was a really fun say and one we will savor for a long time... or at least until the next storm!
