Summer Swim Team
This Summer’s Swimming…
Well this summer’s swim season ended on a high note. Paige qualified at Prelims to go on to Championships in the same 3 events that she qualified for All Stars in… her 25 Butterfly, 25 Breaststroke, and her 100 IM. Cole swam his little heart out in prelims and was seeded to make it in the 25 Butterfly and in his 25 Breaststroke… however he DQ’d in his Butterfly on his kick, and on his Breaststroke he kind of froze at the end of the race and took forever to swim the last few meters… he did make it to Championships on the Breaststroke, but only as an alternate.
On the day of Championships the kids were in full team spirit mode with lightning bolt tattoos, black and gol
d nails polish, championship t-shirts and ringing their customized Lightning Bolt cow bells. We were notably the most obnoxious team at championships this year… a title we hold in the highest regard! In our 3 short seasons as a team we went from last place to 1st 
place! We won 1st place that day and became the Division D Champions for the Mountain Hi Swim League. Not only did our team win the title, but our 8 & Under girls won 1st place in their age category, as did our 9-10 girls, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 girls. Basically, our GIRLS dominated!!
Paige took 2nd place in the 25M Breaststroke, and 3rd place in the 25M Butterfly and 100M IM. She followed Haleigh Cook (her teammate, and friend) who took 1st in the Fly and Haleigh and Emma in the IM. The 3 of them took placed in the top 3 spots in every single event they raced. WAY TO GO GIRLS!
Emma, Haleigh and Paige, along with Megan Morphew made up the A relay team for Championships and the girls blew the competition out of the water…literally…taking 1st place in both the Freestyle Relay and the Medley Relay by at least a pool’s length.
Cole suited up and was ready to swim, but unfortunately for him there were no scratches and therefore, his alternate spot was not utilized. Cole was a little sad, but overall he was pleased with himself for making it as far as he did this summer!
All-Stars was the weekend following Championships. This was the 1st year Paige qualified to swim at this meet and she did so amazingly well at Championships, we were just ready for some fun! As Coach John put it, they work and work all summer to make it to this meet, and now that they are here, it’s time to let go of the stress and just enjoy the races. Paige was swimming against the BES
T swimmers in the whole league, not just our division. This was her Pro Bowl. Out of 25 teams, each with over 100 swimmers, Paige took 8th in her 25M Butterfly, 16th in her 25M Breaststroke and 16th in her 100M IM. She ribboned in all events, as they ribbon up to the 16th place. Pretty impressive!!
Now that summer league is over, we are faced with a decision of what to do for the winter. Lightning Bolt Swim Club is going to continue the program through the winter as it did last winter, however, Paige’s coach, Coach Jen, has taken a leave from the team for 1 year to go to Europe. Paige attended the Colorado Stars swim team tryouts last week, and we will be hearing from them in a few weeks to see if she made the team. If she did, we must decide which team better suits her needs.
Cole will be taking this winter off from swim team, but will take it back up next summer!
