4th of July weekend - 2010
This year’s 4th of July weekend was a whirlwind trip to Arizona. It was extremely last minute 
and as quick as we decided to go, it was over! Jen had flown out to spend the week with us after moving back to Arizona a little over a month ago. She made a comment about how Kevin would have an extra day off from work and that Robert would as well, due to the holiday, so she thought it would be a good time for us to come spend the weekend. We didn’t have a swim meet, or any other formal plans for the holiday, so we loaded up the car and off we went for a quick 3 day weekend in Arizona.
It was a little over 14 hours to drive in, and we lef
t right around midnight on Friday night. I wanted to leave around dinnertime, but Robert had promised our neighbor Ed that he would play poker with him that night. So while I was impatiently waiting for him to lose the game I was packing, loading and bugging him to go “all in” so we could leave. He actually ended up winning the tournament and won enough money to pay for our entire weekend away… so I quit complaining about how late it was.
Once we arrived in Arizona Jen took the kids out back to their pool and let us take a nice long nap in her comfy bed. It was much needed, and afterwards we were refreshed for the evening. Good thing, too, because Saturday night was Fight Night at the Allen
s’, a party we frequented when they still lived across the street. We got to meet all of their “old” friends from when they lived in Arizona before, along with some of the new ones that they had made since they moved. I invited over my brother and his fiancé, Courtney, also. It was such a fun night! And to top it off, Carwin won the fight, who was the fighter I had my money on!
The next day was the 4th.
We slept in and the kids spent almost all morning in the pool. Oh how I wish we could have a pool in Colorado!! For the afternoon we planned to go over to Nicole and Aaron’s house for a BBQ, pool and hot tubbin’ good time! Nicole is one of Jen’s new friends. They are both very nice and welcomed us right into their home.
I made my famous Artichoke dip, which was, of course, a hit… and we hung out, ate good food and chatted the day away. Again, the kids spent the day going between the pool and the hot tub.
As it started to get later, we rounded up the kids, threw them all in the car and then drove over to the Big League Dreams baseball stadium. We hopped a ravine and hiked across a beat down corn field to stake out our spot to watch the fireworks. They were pretty, but s
maller in scale than in years past. All in all, it was a fabulous time!
The next day was Monday. The Allen’s along with some of their friends and my brother were planning to spend the day on the river tubing, but alas, we had to spend the day driving back home. It was a lot faster on the way back, only 12 hours. I think we found the route we will take from now on for future trips!
