Summer Time Swimming
WOW! You can tell I have had a busy summer since I have not had a chance to update my blog!! Paige and Cole both swam on the summer swim team this year and it has been a tremendous time commitment! We organized a board of directors this year since our team is growing, and really, it was needed. Robert was elected the President of the Board and I stepped up to be the Coordinator of everything Volunteering... it was a lot of work, but fun, and rewarding to see our team so organized this year.Cole participated in tryouts in May. After a few months of private lessons with Coach Jen, we weren't sure if he was ready...but he surprised us all when he swam 50M of free style and 25M of breast stroke at tryouts that afternoon. Needless to say, he made the team.
Paige continued to be a star player in her age group and helped lead the team to become the Division Champions! Her relay team was #1 in the league and the 8&Under girls for our team were undefeated all season, as was the team as a whole. With any luck, our boys program will continue to grow and Cole can help lead them to the same victory.
Paige qualified for championships in all of the events she tried for... 25M Butterfly, 25M Breaststroke and 100M IM. She placed 3rd in the Butterfly, 2nd in the Breaststroke and 3rd in the IM. TOP 3 in the DIVISION! Her relay team placed 1st in both the FreeStyle Relay and the Medley Relay.Aside from championships she also qualified for All Stars in those same events. This was the 1st year Paige has qualified for All Stars. She swam against 24 other teams and out of the possible 2500 swimmers in the league she placed #11 in the Butterfly, #16 in the Breast Stroke and #16 in the IM. NOT TOO SHABBY!
Cole had a great summer as well! For only being 5 years old he swam at every meet both in individual events and in relays. He qualified for Championships as an alternate in the 25M Breast Stroke. His time at prelims was slower than his best time, but he still made it! He didn't get to swim at Championships, however, they didn't need him... but he was suited up and psyched just to be there!!
The swim season for the summer went fast... we are sad to see it end, but ready for a weekend off. For the fall/winter we are planning to stay with Lifetime but we are looking into our options for a more competitive team for Paige. She is very determined to excel in this sport. She says her goal is to make it to the Olympics. I guess we'll see!!!
